AUSTIN – St. Edward's scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings which proved to be too much for The University of Texas of the Permian Basin softball team as the Hilltoppers won the third game of the series 6-2.
The Hilltoppers picked up three of their nine hits in the bottom of the third, including an RBI single by Courtney Lavendar. St. Edward's also took advantage of a UTPB error which eventually led to another run.
The fourth inning was a near mirror image of the third as St. Edward's racked up three more hits which led to three more runs and a comfortable 6-0 lead.
UTPB finally got on the board in the fifth when
Whitney Kuhrt singled up the middle to plate
Alisha Carrasco who reached on a one-out double to left center. The Falcons put up another run in the top of the seventh after Carrasco homered for the first time this year. She finished the game with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.
The Falcons fell to 10-16 overall and 0-3 in Heartland Conference play and will take on Incarnate Word on Tuesday in San Antonio.
