ODESSA – In light of the devastation left by Hurricane Harvey, The University of Texas of the Permian Basin will host a supply and water drive at its football home opener Saturday vs Sul Ross at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa.
"Hurricane Harvey has had a direct impact on so many of our UTPB families," head coach Justin Carrigan said. "I wish we could do more. I wish we were there to physically help with the clean up process."
Parking/tailgating will open at noon and kickoff is scheduled for 6pm.
West Texas Food Bank will have donation bins set up for non-perishable items at each of the entrance gates to the stadium and Texans Care/NS Trucking will have trailers set up near the Falcon Flyway Tailgating area to collect cases of water. The Red Cross is also asking for cash donations.
UT Permian Basin President, Dr. Sandra Woodley says she has been moved by the out pouring of support for all those touched by Harvey, "This is one of the things that makes our community great. The selfless giving and show of support is an inspiration."
Below are the items that are being collected and ways to give.
FOOD BANK ITEMS – Canisters will be at the stadium
Canned foods; soups, vegetables, canned meats, canned fish, peanut butter and jelly (no glass), fruit and fruit cups
Dry foods; cereal, pot tarts, powdered milk
Cleaning supplies; bleach, paper towels, disinfecting wipes, soaps
Personal supplies; face-cleansing wipes, baby wipes, diapers, feminine hygiene products, baby food & formula
NO GLASS BOTTLES OR JARS CANNOT BE SENT TO THE IMPACTED AREAS
Texans Care/NS Trucking – Collected near the Falcon Flyway Tailgate Area
Cases of bottled water
Red Cross – Needs cash donations
